The Tower Remembers

Having just arrived back in Canada I have over 1500 photographs to review and determine which will be the keepers and which will be deleted. We had a great trip visiting London, Bath, Stratford upon the Avon and Southampton in England, Bergen, Norway, Lerwick, Shetland Islands, Iceland and St. John’s , Newfoundland. It was a great adventure with landscapes unlike no other.

While in London we spent some time at the Tower of London. Infancy myself a bit of a history buff and this location holds over a thousand years of stories… Incredibly fascinating. In recognition of the 100th year anniversary of the start of World War 1 the tower had a very unique and stunning memorial set up. It was still being finished when we were there. The memorial was made up of thousands of poppies each placed in memory of every commonwealth soldier who paid the ultimate sacrifice. It was an incredible sight.

This photo is just a small shot of the scene. I took thus with my iPad. More to come…..

  1. We visited the Tower of London too while on our trip this summer. I thought that was one of the most beautiful memorials I have ever seen. You also mentioned Bath. I loved every single place we visited, but I must say that Bath is one town that I would really like to go back and explore in more depth. We were there on a bus tour to see the Roman Baths, but there were so many other interesting places as well. Did you know that Johnny Depp has a house there?
