We had arrived in Moorea. When we planned our South Pacific trip, French Polynesia was to be one of the highlights. I had no idea just how much of a highlight it would be. It took us 7 days to sail from Australia to Tahiti. The island of Moorea as you saw in a previous post was visible from Papeete. It’s about 15 miles from the Tahiti. This jungle paradise is simply that… a paradise. I have never seen such rich colours of green. No matter what direction you looked, paradise greeted you.
We had decided the first thing we would do was head out on a 5 hour 4wd safari… this would give us a good look at the entire island. On this Safari we would make our way from the water’s edge to one of the highest accessible points on the island, known as Magic Mountain. It was simply incredible.
Our guide would take us across large plantations showing us great views of the varied flora and fauna of the island. We would see plantations of Banana’s, Pineapple, Lemon and Grapefruit. I will let the pictures do the talking for you.
Here are a few shots for you as we embarked on our safari…. we were greeted by these traditional dancers once we were on shore….
A busy spot where the ship’s tenders drop you off…. you can see the jungle in the background and the peak of the mountain to the left in this picture is where we were about to go….
Heading down a not so good paved road… most of the roads were not paved….
A land based view….
The foliage of Moorea…
Climbing the mountain the views became breathtaking…. this isn’t even close to the top!
